Ho'oponopono: a practice of reconciliation and forgiveness.

Updated: Apr 12

Ho'oponopono is a traditional Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness. At its core is the belief that our external reality reflects our internal state, and by taking responsibility for our thoughts, actions, and emotions, we can heal ourselves and the world around us.

Ho'oponopono Prayer

I'm Sorry

Forgive Me

Thank You

I love You

The Ho'oponopono prayer consists of four simple phrases:

  1. I'm sorry: This phrase acknowledges the recognition of responsibility for whatever issue or conflict is being addressed. It's an expression of humility and willingness to own one's part.

  2. Please forgive me: Asking for forgiveness shows a desire for reconciliation and healing. It acknowledges the need for forgiveness, both from others and from oneself.

  3. Thank you: Expressing gratitude is a powerful way to shift focus from negativity to positivity. It acknowledges the potential for growth and learning from challenging situations.

  4. I love you. Love is considered the most potent force for healing in the Ho'oponopono tradition. By expressing love, one seeks to dissolve negative energy and promote harmony and connection.

The prayer can be used in various contexts, whether to resolve conflicts within oneself, in relationships, or even on a larger scale to address societal issues. It's a practice of self-reflection, humility, and forgiveness that aims to restore balance and harmony in all aspects of life.

One of the unique aspects of Ho'oponopono is its emphasis on the interconnectedness of all beings and the belief that healing oneself can lead to healing others and the world at large. It's a profound reminder of the power of forgiveness, love, and personal responsibility in creating a more peaceful and harmonious existence.

Also, the four phrases do not need to be said in a set order. By doing so, YOU create a dynamic exchange of energy and intention.

Thank you, I needed this. My old friend died the day before my birthday and I sort of did a version of this prayer. It's a long story, she and I went to high school together. I'll share it with the Woo Crew sometime, but...this prayer is awesome. Linda
